We Escarlata play the role of “creative peasants”; our goal is to be close to the ground and to people, to sow the seeds of curiosity and imagination. Right from the start, we ensure our signature style and way of interpreting the live arts.

In the community interventions that we, or that you, propose, we like to show our savoir faire, which is rich with our background, experience and curiosity.

Our method does not impose, either in form or manner, or point of view. We like to let the propositions float, allowing them to emerge from the participants themselves who will also be the ones to guide them, while always accompanied by the Scarlet team, attentive to the direction of these suggestions. In this way, we help to realize the artistic and creative potential that they each have and provide them with the channels for that to flourish and for the poetry to come to light.

Sensitivity, proximity, listening, humanity and love are the tools that we try to transmit and use in all our creative processes.

Bet and Aspa, I’ve run out of words before. Thank you so much for what you have done this time and for the way you have cared for all of us. I had never done anything like this and I would not have been encouraged if it were not for you. You have given me new tools to keep in mind that I can put into practice within music and set design. New spaces of creative freedom
To talk about Stage Artifacts or Landings in the Classroom is to talk about Escarlata and the L’Artesà Theatre. These are new spaces of scenic freedom that enhance the combination of culture and education. They create landscapes of a thousand different colours that are alive in our memory.

A young workshop for old clowns

The clown tells us about life. He leads us down the path he decides to take and not down the established one. That’s why he surprises us and amazes us with his freedom of action.
After all, we can only gather experience with the passage of time.
Old age comes with wisdom.
Clowns in the circus distil an artist’s life; as the body ages, the soul is made beautiful, giving shape and body to the figure of the clown.

We propose an approach to old age, to find the humour and laughter in life with the help of those who are most experienced in the art of living. It is a proposal to laugh at life. The Young Old Clowns will open their windows to us to share their discoveries during this workshop dedicated to the art of laughter. A little pearl has sprung up that we hope and wish will serve you whenever you need it in life. We have learned to make old age beautiful by laughing!
Ours is a proposal to laugh at life.
Laughter is the medicine of the soul and we want to share it.

And now what?

Stage artifactsTeatre de L’Artesà – El Prat de Llobregat – 2019

And now what? This is the question that young people in Performing Arts ask themselves and we address to the audience. It is a reflection on the fears of childhood and on the journey from this stage into adulthood.
Accompanied by Bet and Aspa from the Escarlata Circus Company and Laura Tamayo, a theatre teacher at theSchool of Live Arts, 7 young people have been working, through the disciplines of Live Arts, with this question, drawing from essential life experiences. The final staging has visual elements; video projections or visual poems, sound elements; student compositions and recorded audios, and theatrical elements created by the participants themselves. A group of Artistic Awareness students (students who are 6 years old) have collaborated in the final staging.
And now what?can be viewed on Thursday 16 January in different spaces of the Teatre L’Artesà.

Landings in the classroom

Classroom interventions– L’Artesà Theatre – El Prat de Llobregat – 2019

Through dialogue and with the help of audiovisual media we will share the professional journey of a theatre company over the space of over thirty years with the classroom.
With this exchange we aim to raise awareness and arouse curiosity about our profession as well as its satellite trades in the artistic and cultural fields.
Art and culture are the essential foundations of our society and through education and reflection we will be able to realize the need for a sustainable, just and plural community to support these essential social foundations.

That is why this activity is aimed, above all, at young people who are about to reach maturity, where they have to make key decisions for their professional and emotional future. This includes ESO, Open Classrooms, special education….

We propose to enter the classroom and from questions and projected images of our own trajectory as a company, to generate a debate with young people and to raise questions such as:
– Is the circus a trade?
– What about the animals in the shows?
– What is creation?
– What creative jobs are there? .

.. and leaving space to be able to generate debate and reflection … which is necessary!

In Residence

Creators in the schools of Barcelona – 2018

Project leaders Laura Tajada and Escarlata Circus

During the course that spanned our presence in the school, we gave the students tools so that each one of them could think about the creative process and present at the end of the period a piece that was cultivated and imbued with their own sensitivity.
We looked at paintings, listened to music, and challenged the body to new challenges while juggling teenage hormones.

Above all, it was an act of sharing that took place between all of us, starting with each individual, in order to make us part of the group and emphasize listening, sharing and accepting.
The intention was to be able to give these adolescents a perspective on the art and the trades that depend on sharing and acceptance.

The Joan Salvat-Papasseit Institute is a center located in Barceloneta, in an area of facilities where the Narcís Monturiol Institute, the Alexandre Galí School, the La Mar Municipal Nursery School and the Environmental Education Center la Fàbrica del Sol. Since the 2012-13 academic year, he has been developing the APDICUM project (Dynamic Application of the Curriculum) based on multiple proposals for interdisciplinary work in different contexts.

Playground Circus

Creation workshops with students from the Atelier cirque du Collège des 4 Terres in Hérimoncourt commissioned by Ma Scène Nationale Pays de Montbéliard – 2015

After a course working with the students and their teacher and guide Olivier Croissant, we made the decision to continue our research in the role of the individual person who places themselves in the service of the group, but this time through “the universe of fairgoers”. The aim was to discover new forms of expression, which would allow us to delve deeper into the discovery and exploration of an entire universe where wonder, surprise and savoir fairewill be the protagonists of the game.

The project looked at allowing students to deepen their knowledge of circus techniques and give them a framework through Fairground Arts, to express themselves and open up to the public, and to create a space where technical skill would not be the goal; instead, the emphasis would be on the way in which skill is presented. We learnt about the interpretation and the different roles of the characters so that each individual could find their place and their strength within the group.

Parcours Par coeur

Workshops with the students of the Atelier cirque of the College des 4 Terres in Hérimoncourt commissioned by Ma Scène Nationale Pays de Montbéliard – 2014

The circus teaches us a certain discipline, a certain rigor when it comes to framing of the imaginary; it is a balance between two antitheses. With the circus and a choice of materials and elements (boxes, stairs, cones and stones) we have based our workshops on research, discovery and creation, arriving at this Parcours Par coeurthrough the streets of the city of Montbéliard, always with the help and dedication of Olivier Croissant.
