…) They have been there since the beginning of the planet, sometimes even coming from another planet. They carry the stigma of their terrible downfall. They have been there since before man (…) They only perpetuate their own memory (…) They have continued to be what they were, sometimes fresher and clearer, but always in their truth: they are themselves and nothing else. I’m talking about stones that don’t even have to wait for death and have nothing to do but let the sand, the showers or the surf, the storm, the weather slide over them. ”
Roger Caillois – La Lecture des pierres
COR ROC is an experience conceived as a guided tour, a collection of heart- shaped stones that come to life, tell stories and form the framework of a “geocardiotheatricalcircus” exercise.
Along the visit, Miss Coral and Mr. Peter tell us there once existed the “Curiosities Cabinets”, and that we are surrounded by artworks…
if our curiosity is playful enough, we will soon realise we are among some of the oldest in the world: the stones. Listening to them, we feel tiny towards nature, the universe and its history.
And traveling back along history, passing through the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Middle Ages, the Age of Reason, up to present time… we ask ourselves: how can it be that, if the heart is a muscle that pumps blood, we use the same heart, and not another body organ, to talk about love?
From these objects, apparently inert, we become as surprised as children and as deep as scientists.
